OUR STORY
Wagga Trucks is a family-owned and operated business, owned by Matt and Naomi Shaw, supplying new and used trucks, trailers, and after sales support to customers across Australia.
The Early Days
Wagga Trucks was originally founded by John & Bryce Shaw in 1997, trading as Wagga Trucks and Equipment. It began with a focus on selling used trucks and earthmoving equipment, but the story started well before that.
In the 1990’s, each harvest season, John would purchase extra trucks for farm use, then sell them once the season was over. Over time, that side activity began to grow. By the mid-90s, trading used trucks had become as much a part of the family’s farming operation as the harvest itself. In 1997, the trading took the next step when Wagga Trucks and Equipment officially opened at Blaxland Road, operating from a 1.5-acre yard with an average of just five trucks on hand. John’s eldest son, Bryce Shaw, ran the business from the start, helping build its foundations in those first years.
Steady Growth
In 2000, the business changed its trading name to Wagga Trucks, better reflecting the shift in focus toward retailing quality used trucks.
In 2002, after completing his mechanical apprenticeship, Matt Shaw, John’s second son, bought into the business and relocated from Griffith to Wagga Wagga. In truth, Matt had been around long before that however, buying and selling his first truck at just 14.
By September 2009, with continued steady growth, Wagga Trucks had outgrown its original premises and moved to a larger, more modern facility at 280 Hammond Avenue, featuring a 2-acre display area fronting the Sturt Highway and a total yard area of 6 acres.
That same year, we became the Riverina dealer for Hino Trucks, the second highest-selling truck brand in Australia.
The Story Continues
After relocating to Hammond Avenue, Wagga Trucks continued to grow year after year, and proudly operate with some of the best facilities, equipment, and people in the country.
‘We’ve built a reputation for quality trucks, dependable service, and strong customer relationships that remain at the core of the business today. Our spare parts department, modern sales offices, and workshop facilities have supported steady growth across sales, servicing, and support’
The coming years saw Wagga Trucks consistently exceed targets across Hino truck sales, parts, and service, with much of that success attributed to long-standing relationships with government departments, civil operators, and regional businesses - all backed by the practical and personalised approach to everything we do.
In 2016 Wagga Trucks became the new Riverina agent for Volvo, UD & Mack. This marked a major expansion of the business and led to further investment in staff, equipment, and facilities.
In 2021 we became sub dealers for the Freighter Group, and in 2025 Wagga Trucks was appointed as the regional authorised dealer for Freighter, offering full trailer sales, servicing, and parts support across the Riverina.
In 2022, Wagga Trucks celebrated 25 years in business, a milestone we were proud to reach.
In 2024, Bryce Shaw retired, and Matt and Naomi Shaw stepped into full operational leadership of the business. Today, they manage Wagga Trucks day-to-day and lead a team of over 50 staff across sales, service, admin, and parts.
While John Shaw is no longer involved in the daily operations, he’s still a regular presence - especially on Saturday mornings, when you’ll find him cooking a BBQ breakfast and catching up with staff and customers.
We’re proud of where we’ve come from, and we’re proud of the business we’ve built. With the continued support of our customers, we look forward to growing the next chapter of Wagga Trucks with the same values it was founded on - hard work, good people, and getting the job done properly.
